1.What was the most difficult assessment item you completed in COIS20025 this term (not counting the examination which is not until the examination period)?

All the assessments are not too difficult. The most difficult one for me is assessment 2: to map a data design and write a essay about traditional versus object-oriented approach. Also assignment 2 is just worth 30% of overall mark and it constitutes the largestpercentage in these three assignments, it need us  more time and energy to complete it than the other two. Unlike assessment 1 and 3, the two parts do not have relationship.

2.What was difficult about it and how would you suggest it could be improved?

As for data design, it is done in the course of database, and the symbols beween this two courses are complete different.  So it was suggested to be use as the some symbol.

3.Name three (3) things you learnt this term in COIS20025.

System development life cycle (SDLC) which consists  five phases was named as system planning, system analysis, systems design, systems implementation, and systems operation and support.

Fact-finding techniques which includes interviews, document review, observation, surveys and questionnairies, sampling and research.

Four possible approaches to changing from one information system to another: Direct cutover, Parallel, Pilot and Phased operation.

Post an entry to your blog that explains the implications of using each of these approaches at Health Centres to change from the existing manaual system to the new CHIS you have been modelling and designing in assignments 1 and 2. Your post should include discussion of the benefits and problems associated with each approach.

1.Direct cutover

This approach means the change occur immediately when the new system becomes operational. As case study material shows the old system does not share and each health institution also doed not enter the record seriously.Consequence, this approach may helpful for the health institution.However, this approach may need to change most part of the system and the person who executes may have trouble in execute a new one. Also, without correct design this approach may cause more problems.Such as the child does not receive the new vaccines or receive repeat.

2.Parallel Operation

That means that the old and news system were operated fully in specified preriod. The health institution can keep the correct record no matter the new system is work correct or not. When the new system is ensure correct then old system is terminated.Also, the results from old and new system can used for compare to improve the new system work effectively. However, it need more resoure to run two system for one thing.

 3.Pilot Operation

The pilot operation which is a method implement the complete system at a part of the company. For the CHIS, it can solve the sharable problem in least time. It changes the parts of system, this may cause the information in the system can not math well.Such a child may have two or more personal information record.

4.Phased Operation

This changeover method which allow the designer to implement the new system in stage or modules. This method can cause less  risks of error or failures which is limited to the stage or module only. In addtion, the cost of this way is medium level.This is useful for CHIS becuse of that many institution need this new system and the fund for it is limited.

 This book descripts the detail information about the two apporachs,such as the definition of the two approachs, the parts of each approach and how it help programmer to develop the new system.

 This book suggested that the advantages of the object-oriented approach can be summarized as:

 1. Easier modelling, using and analysis

 2. Reusability of code

 3. Improved flexibility

 4. Increased efficiency and better reliability

 The traditional and object-oriented approaches to information systems development are similar in process modeling.Because of that both of them using the process modeling to transform the input to output.

The view of an information system are different. Object-oriented approaches  view an information system as a collection of interacting  objects that work together to accomplish tasks while  traditional  approaches use a set of process models to describe a system graphically.

As part of assignment 1 you are required to develop two Data Dictionary entries (pp 167-173 of the textbook) for processes identified in the Zero DFD for the CHIS. This question is designed to give you practice at developing Data Dictionary entries.

· Process description: This process is to check the inventory which customer want to rental is available or not.

· Notes: If checking result is available, the system can go on, else it may go back to the process 2.

· Purpose: To confirm the trading and finish trading.

· Input Data Flows: agreement, trading confirm, payment

· Output Data Flows: trading detail, invoice, videos

· Process description: In this process, the staff checking the agreement and retail detail and confirm the trading. Then after customer paying the payment, he receives the invoice and videos.

· Notes: Firstly, the customer and staff need to confirm the agreement and rental detail. Next, customer pay money and get invoice and videos.

Create a context DFD and Diagram 0 DFD of the processes you need to complete when borrowing a DVD from a video rental shop.

Q: How document review, observation, questionnaires and surveys, sampling and research might be used to answer the following questions:

A: As the textbook(Shelly,  Chasman & Rosenblatt 2007, p114) showed that there have some  fact-finding techniques for systems analysts:document review, observation, questionnaires and surveys, sampling and research. We shuold use them effective to help us solve the questions.

 First of all,   document review which straight point out how the current system works, also, sometimes was not update. This technique may not help us answer these above questions because  the documents most is about the help support.

Observation is another fact-finding technique. It supports us the additional perception of system procedures and makes themselves easy understand. It may be able to help us solve those three questions.

Thirdly, questionnaires and surveys, which was define as  “a document containing a number of standard questions that can be sent to many individuals”(Shelly,  Chessman & Rosenblatt 2007, p116) ,can help us  if the people who answer the surveys seriously and professionally.

Fourth, sampling, which means use examples as the whole thing, can save us much time. However, it may help us answer the front two questions. The last question, it maybe can answer as well but lack of persuasion.

Finally, the last measure is research. As we know there have many information research engines on internet and many libraries have their own research systems, this is the useful way to solve the all questions.

    A:  According to the case study material(http://webfuse.cqu.edu.au/ 2008 ), the Child Health Information Systems has several current problems. First one is that the records about child health information are ambiguity. Such as: “no accurate records” on number of children who have been immunize” and the kind of vaccines as well as what diseases they had in the past. (IBID) Second one is that no monitor to tracking the children’s health information. The last one is the information system was not accessed by all health centres.

   A: As the study material (http://webfuse.cqu.edu.au/ 200 listed, there are some information was need to collected. Firstly, children information such as names, age, gender and so on. Secondly, the vaccines and its type and the detail information of the health centre which can supply the vaccines. Thirdly, the diseases which were easy infect children. Finally, case history of a child maybe need.
